COMMENTS
Mayor Reiman stated that the resolution calls for a reduction of the tax
levy of $1.1 million dollars using $521,000.00 additional surplus and
$579,000.00 cut from the actual budget.
MAY 18, 2004
Dennis Cherepski said the board recognizes the fact that these are
COMMENTS difficult economic times for the taxpayers. However, it is also a
(Continued) difficult time for the education of the community. The cuts presented
this evening are severe and place a tremendous burden on the board to
meet the needs of the students. It will take a monumental effort on the
part of the board and its administrators to maintain the status quo at
best. However, unlike some, he has a great deal of confidence that this
board and its administrators are up to the task. He has taken under
advisement, the recommendations of the County Business
Administrator, County Superintendent, our Board Attorney and our
Administrators that recommend that this board accept the cuts and
move forward without further appeal. He thanked the Mayor, his office
and Mr. Gardner for the time and effort put forth making this difficult
decision, a decision which will affect our entire community.
