HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-20-09 - Landscape Committee Workshop.tifMINUTES LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE WORKSHOP KEY BISCAYNE, FLORIDA TUESDAY, JANUARY 20, 2009 COUNCIL CHAMBER 560 CRANDON BOULEVARD The meeting was called to order by the Mayor at 6:00 p.m. Present were Councilmembers Jorge E. Mendia, Thomas Thornton, Vice Mayor Michael W. Davey and Mayor Robert L. Vernon. Councilmembers Enrique Garcia, Robert Gusman and Michael E. Kelly were absent. Also present were Village Manager Genaro "Chip" Iglesias and Village Clerk Conchita H. Alvarez. The Manager addressed the Council recommending that the Council review the Landscape Master Plan Inventory and Analysis of Existing Conditions, Landscape Management Plan and Master Landscape Plan Phase II: Concept Development Options. Should the Council wish to further consider the recommendations, then the item should be placed on a Regular Council Agenda. The agreement between the Village and WRT provided for the preparation of a Landscape Master Plan with the following components: 1.) Master Landscape Plan Inventory and Analysis of Existing Conditions; 2.) Landscape Management Plan and Master Landscape Plan Phase II: Development Options. The third document contains conceptual drawings of improvement to the Village Green, East Enid Lake and Beach Park, the Community School, Streets and Intersections, Vegetation and site hardscape recommendations. 1 oft January 20, 2009 The Master Plan is based on the findings and recommendations that were presented in the Inventory and Analysis of Existing Conditions, the Landscape Management/Maintenance Plan, and information provided by the Landscape Committee. Together, these documents provide the Village with methods to significantly enhance the existing landscape environment. The Master Plan provides conceptual drawings and cost estimates for our most important open spaces. These estimates are as follows: 1. The Village Green $1,312,000 2. East Enid Lake and Beach Park $ 739,932 3. Community School $ 117,939 Carrie Steinbaum, Landscape Architect with WRT, Ron Oprzadek, Horticurtulist for the Village and Public Works Director Armando Nunez made a presentation to the Council. Landscape Committee Members Cecile Sanchez, Bud Schroeder addressed the Council. The following residents also addressed the Council: Carlos Coto, Charles Viscito, Jackie Kellogg and Eduardo Sanchez.
