HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-31-92 Emergency Council Meeting.tifMINUTES Emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees of Village of Key Biscayne, Florida called by Mayor Rafael Conte Call to Order 12 10, August 31, 1992 Present Rafael Conte, Ray Sullivan, Cliff Brody, Mort Fried, Joe Rasco 1 FEMA Representatives from the state and federal FEMA agencies (copy of attendees attached hereto) explained the application/reimbursement process to the Trstees Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen attended the presentation and served as a facilitator R Sullivan recommended that the Village hire an administrator to be exclusively responsible for the claim/reimbursement process 2 Minutes of August 30, 1992 Motion for approval by M Fried, seconded by R Conte Approved 5-0 3 Letter to Residents advising of need for permits Board authorized the Village Manager to send letters to each home reminding residents to use licensed contractors and to obtain permits at the Village Offices Motion by M Fried, Seconded by R Conte Approved 5-0 4 Village Engineer's Update The need for additional equipment and manpower at burn site was discussed Friendly Tree has not given the Vuillage necessary paperwork regarding their contract R Sullivan suggested that the Village prevent them from dumping anything until the proper documentation has been submitted Carlos Penin was directed to pursue this with Friendly Tree 11 5 Water and Sewer Service WASA has complained that the contractors have been damaging water valves during clean-up work WASA has responded to 3 breaks All lift stations, except for one on East Wood Driver are energized 6 Building Official's Report An update was presented to the Board (copy attached) The Board asked that two homes be checked out for unsafe structure 7 Line of Credit with Key Biscayne Bank C Brody recommended that the Village request the line of credit be increased from $100,000 to $1,000,000, in light of emergency expenditures caused by the hurricane A motion was made by C Brody and seconded by R Sullivan Approved 5-0 8 Volunteers from Cocoa Beach and Sarasota are here and working on removal of household items 9 Police City of Miami forces have relieved Metro Police, who were dispatched elsewhere temporarily Manager is trying to get additional manpower from Broward C Brody recommended seeking assistance from Polk County R Sullivan suggested help from Coconut Creek 10 Street Sweeping Underway with City of Miami equipment 11 Chipping Equipment Appears to be too expensive as an option to burning 12 Electricity Number of calls regarding lack of service has dropped significantly 13 Cable Television Outlook for renewed service doesn't look too promising Adelphia office is closed, although repair trucks and crews are on the island 14 Meeting Times Changed to 4 30pm and limited to one -hour Motion by R Sullivan and Seconded by C Brody Approved 5-0 15 Next Meeting on Tuesday, September 1, 1992 at 4 30pm Meeting adjourned at 3 OOpm Minutes prepared by Robin Sobrino, Community Development Director -'% �jyfF /Ai' goz-z-oLd.,,4/ tk,ul t.----,6 _S Dievs) g"-/Lik C rera-Jei pa d4 -714-12s tdcLAZ AR(7u..\.
