Town of Leesburg Celebrates Completion of Miller Drive With
Ribbon Cutting on December 10, 2013
Leesburg, VA (December 6, 2013) – At
6:30pm on Tuesday, December 10,
2013, the Town of Leesburg will
celebrate the completion of Miller Drive
with a ribbon cutting. The ribbon
cutting ceremony will be held at the
southern end of the new roadway
section, near the intersection with Blue
Seal Drive.
The new section of Miller Drive extends
from Blue Seal Drive to Tolbert Lane,
providing a direct connection from the Leesburg Airport Commerce Park north to the Oaklawn
development. The opening of the road gives businesses located along Miller Drive an alternate
route to the Dulles Greenway, the Leesburg Bypass and Route 7 via Battlefield Parkway that
avoids making a left-hand turn onto Sycolin Road at an unsignalized intersection. Drivers
should see improved traffic flow, particularly during peak AM and PM times. Construction
began in July 2013 and the road opened to traffic on December 5, 2013.
Total cost for the extension of Miller Drive was $1.25 million. Although the Town’s Capital
Projects Department managed the project, no funding came from the Town’s general revenue.
Loudoun County contributed over $1 million from developer proffer funds. The adjacent
property owner, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, contributed
$140,000.
