A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF McCALL, IDAHO,
RELATING TO THE PROCESS FOR THE SELECTION OF A SITE FOR A NEW
POST OFFICE IN McCALL.
WHEREAS:
1. The Council previously resolved that the new Post Office be located in the
downtown area of McCall defined therein; and
2. The USPS arrived in town unannounced to meet with us, with an already written
letter in hand explaining their past decision, undertook to justify their decision
and to discourage any other decision, then promised to discuss a split facility; and
3. It appears that the USPS has written to the people and to government officials in a
fashion which would substantially mislead the uninformed about the level of
previous contact between us; and
4. It appears that there has been no commitment from the USPS to enter into a
meaningful process in which the City appears to be more than an entity to be
pacified; and
5. The USPS has now told the City that the only downtown facility it would provide
is stamps and a part-time window without boxes;
BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the City of McCall by unanimous vote
that:
Section 1. The City of McCall finds all proposals to date by the USPS to be
unacceptable.
Section 2. The City of McCall again demands that the Postal Service create jointly with
the City of McCall a process for creating a consensus proposal by the USPS and
the City; and
Section 3. If the USPS does not wish to enter into such a process, the City will choose to
forego having any new Post Office.
Passed and approved February 12, 1997.

William M. Killen,
