BREWSTER AGRICULTURAL COMMISSION
Held Thursday, March 21,2013 at 7:00 P.M.
At the Brewster Town Office Building, 2198 Main Street, Room A
Present: Peter Herrmann, David Miller, David Carlson, Rebecca Howes
Absent: Lucas Dinwiddie,Stephan Browne
Guests: Robert Dwyer, Director CCMNH, Barbara Knoss, Directors of Education and Volunteers, Kate
Roderick,Curator of Collections
Mr. Herrmann called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.
The discussion of a Farmer's Market proposed by the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History began with a
history of the project given by Bob Dwyer. Barbara Knoss explained that they are doing a local food
program and that a farmer's market would be"an offshoot of that". They have been to the Board of
Health,the Building Commissioner(Victor Staley)and the Town Planner(Sue Levin)followed by Staff
Review which was supportive. It was recommended that they go to the Agricultural Commission to
enlist the commission's support. The Agricultural Commission expressed its members support for the
project. The discussion then turned to the next steps required which involved a special event permit as
a "trial venue"followed by an application to the planning board for a regular permit. They then will
have to go for a second staff review and receive approval from the Board of Selectmen for a special
venue license. Peter Herrmann stated that the Harwich Board of Health now has an agricultural market
and event permit for activities of this kind. David Carlson and David Miller both agreed to speak to the
Building Commissioner and Town Planner about this project. A motion to support the project was
moved by David Miller, seconded by David Carlson and passed unanimously by the commission.
Peter Herrmann reviewed the terms of the members of the commission and cited a need for a new vice-
chair and a new clerk. Rebecca Howes will be the new clerk and Lucas Dinwiddie was proposed as a new
vice chair.
The minutes for the meeting of March 24, 2011 were read and approved.
The meeting adjourned at 8:12.
