HomeMy Public PortalAboutAll Citizens Access -- 2013-03-22 Minutes ALL CITIZENS ACCESS COMMITTEE Meeting Minutes, March 22, 2013 Meeting began at 2:20pm Members Present: Claire Gradone, Denise Rego, Robert Steinmann, Maureen Steinmann Members Absent: Brian Ladley The meeting minutes for February 15, 2013 were reviewed, approved and accepted. White Caps Field: The survey by MA Office on Disability will be done on Tuesday, April 16, at fpm by Chris Becker joined by members of the ACAC. Emphasis will be on how to make the area more accessible for the spectators with disabilities. It is expected that the review will include the handicap parking area, the access to the general area, the seating for people with disabilities, and access to the bathroom facilities. This review would be the basis for future plans to improve accessibility at the White Caps Field. Audible Local Ledger: The Chair mentioned she had received an email from Bob Wooldridge from the Mashpee Disability Committee re an email he received from Sherry Bergeron, Executive Director of the Audible Local Ledger(www.AudibleLocalLedger.org) . The Audible Local Ledger is an affiliate of the state- wide MA Radio Reading Service which allows people with sight loss to listen to their twenty-four/seven radio reading service throughout the Cape. To improve this service, this organization now provides special equipment, free of charge, so that this service can be transmitted to all more clearly, with less signal interference, through the community's local TV cable station. Ms Bergeron sent an email re this to the Mashpee Disabilities Committee and it was forward to the other town disability committees. Claire will check out who at our local TV cable station Sherry should contact. Potential Rotary Grant: The Chair has not heard yet from Dana Condit, nor has Herb Montgomery from the Nauset Rotary. The Chair will follow up. Maybe another project other than the Grist Millsite area will be chosen by this committee for this potential grant. New Eddy School Playground: The Chair received an email from Selectman John Dickson recommending the ACAC's involvement in the review of this project. John is concerned about the accessibility of the play equipment as there is no ramp included in the playground design. The Chair called Victor Staley, Brewster's Building,Inspector, and found he was unaware of the project. So the Chair emailed MOD re this project and MOD stated that there are two different sets of standards that apply: • First, the MAAB (MA Architectural Access Board)through the local building inspector should review the project's access, specifically access to and around the play equipment and area. • Second, the Dept. of Justice's 2010 ADA Design Standards is the other set of guidelines to be enforced. They deal with the "Play Areas". This playground is part of a proposed, larger recreation project that does raise some questions re accessibility. Claire Gradone said that she would be the ACAC's representative. ACAC Status: Maureen and Bob's membership on the committee ends at the end of April. Both Claire and Denise will be put on the list to receive emails re the ACAC and other town disability commissions/committees. The committee will be meeting Chris Becker from MOD at the White Caps Field at fpm on Tuesday, April 16. Our next regular meeting will be on Friday, April 19, at 2pm at the COA. BREWSTER TOWN CLERK The meeting adjourned at 3:20pm. Respectfully submitted by Maureen Steinmann '13 APR24 Hem
