MID-'DENINSULA REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
November 30, 1972 Sunnyvale City Council Chambers
1. CALL TO ORDER : Victor Calvo
The first regular meeting of the lid-Peninsula Regional Park
District was called to order at 8 :20 p.m. Supervisor Calvo
pointed out that"the agenda is light but the occasion is heavy. "
"The existence of this Board is a dream come true for conser-
vationi sts. "

2. S'^'E'ARING IN OF DIRECTORS : Judge Stanley R. Evans
The directors were sworn in by Judge Evans who has been
active in conservation issues in this area for many years.
3. PRESENT1,17IONS
A. Presentation to the Board on behalf of Assemblyman Richard
Hayden by Fred Logan and Kermit Smith of a California state
flag with a certificate stating that the flag had floson
over the State Capitol.
B. Welcome and congratulations by Councilman Gil Gunn of
iunnyvale.
4. ELECTION OF OFFICERS :
A. President :
Motion made b Nonette Hanko : I nominate Dan '„,fendin as
''resident of the Mid-''eninsula Regional park District
Board of Directors. Seconded by Bill Pete=^s. Passed
unanimously.
B. Vice President :
Motion made by Kay Duffy : I nominate Nonette Hanko as
Vice President of the ''id-Teninsula Regional Park
District Board of Directors. Seconded by Dan Condron.
Passed unanimously. Nonette in her acceptance wished
to thank the people who helped establish the District :
Stanley Norton, Mary Davey, Joan �, Tom Brown, Larry
Klein, ','illiam Spangle , Roger t�icConnell , Marion Softky,
Robert Girard, Lois Hogle , Barbara Eastman, Pat
Barantine , Mary & Wallace Stegner , Fadlo mousalam,
Eleanor Boushey, Mary Gordon, Jackie Hall , Jerry
Smith and all the other people who worked and voted
for the establishment of the Distr` ct.

Janet Condron will be the temporary recording secretary.
6. REPORTS & RESOLUTIONS' :
A. Funds :
Because the District will not have any funds un�il D,- cember,
1973, it is necessary that an urg-ney bill go through the
Legislature. Assemblyman Hayden introduced AB 2392 which
pas ,ed the house and was carried through the Fenate by
Senator !,lfred Alquist. It is currently awaiting the
Governor ' s signature.
B. Resolutions :
Director Hanko introduced Resolutions No. 1-72 and 2-72 to
Assemblyman Hayden and Senator Alquist to coi,mend and express
appreciation for their past and continued support of the
Mid-Peninsula Regional "ark District for their prompt and
efficient advocacy on the District' s behalf.
7. TIME, FRE ;UENCY, AND -'LACT OF BOATD MT,ETINGS :
Motion made by Bill Peters that the Board meet the second and
fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 :30 p.m. The place
of the meeting to rotate by ward. �-econded. by Nonette
Hanko. Passed unanimously.
The next meeting will be in Saratoga at the Conference Room.
president Wendin pointed out the next meeting will be a working
meeting to establish the procedures under which the Board will
operate , staffing procedures, how we can aquire land , financing,
office facilities , etc. He also asked Nonette to draft up some
possible procedures of operation for the meeting.aI�n� theF ��h► ���
meantime the agenda for the next meeting will be open.
8. OTHER NE''' BUSINESS.:
A. Meetings with other public agencies :
Director Hanko mentioned the possi :ility of a meeting with
Mayor Jerry Frith of Saratoga on recember 29.
Motion made by Dan Condron that we not begin these meetings
until January,1973, and that we :end a letter to
Mayor Smith indicating this. Seconded by Nonette
Hanko. Passed unanimously.
9. ORAL C O'_,31UNI C ATI ON :
A. El Retiro Retreat :
1 ) Dorothy Gray, 762 Edgewood Lane , Los Altos
Regarding a 16,8 acre parcel on ^dobe Creek currently
owned by the Jesuit Fathers. '"hey are planning to sell
and the lend is to be zoned by Los Altos at the next
{ meeting of the City Council on T'ecember 13. It is
already being considered for development. Mrs. Gray
and 200 other citizens in Los !ltos wLnt this land to
remain as open space and asked the Board for advice and
help.

2) Arthur Ogilvie , Associate 'Olanner, ;Tanta Clara County
?,Tr. Ogilvie pointed out the important archaeological
aspects of this land in relation to the Ohlone Indians.
3) Tom Brown, 2374 Deodora Ave. , Los Altos
N.r. Brown had been at the recent Los f.ltos City
Council meeting where this land had been annexed.
"The majority of the Council does not understand
open space end they don't see a need for an e--isting
open space element. "
Motion made by Director meters that we submit a letter to
the City 'Planning Commission and the City Council
of the City of Los Altos urging the preservation
of the El Retiro sight in some form of open space
and that we ask that a copy of the environmental
impact study be forwarded to us prior to designation
so that we could then decide upon further action.
Seconded by nonette Hanko, passed unanimously.

RESOLUTION COMMENDING ASSEMMLIMAN RICHARD
D. HAYDEN FOR HIS ASSISTANCE TO THE MID- j
PENINSULA REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT. j
WHEREAS, the Mid-Peninsula Regional Park District
was formed at the general election held on November 7, 1972,
and
WHEREAS, upon its formation it was determined that
F under existing legislation the power of the District to borrow
j money for operating expenses may be limited, and
j WHEREAS, Assemblyman RICHARD D. HAYDEN introduced and
obtained unanimous passage of A.B. 2392 as urgency curative
legislation in Sacramento,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE MID-
PENINSULA REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT DOES RESOLVE to commend and

RESOLUTION COMMENDING SENATOR ALFRED E. ALQUIST
FOR HIS ASSISTANCE TO THE MID-PENINSULA REGIONAL
PARK DISTRICT.

WHEREAS, the Mid-Peninsula Regional Park District

was formed at the general election held on November 7, 1972,
and

WHEREAS, upon its formation it was determined that
under existing legislation the power of the District to borrow
money for operating expenses may be limited, and
WHEREAS, Senator ALFRED E. ALQUIST carried and ob-
tained unanimous passage of A.B. 2392 as urgency curative
legislation in Sacramento,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE MID-
PENINSULA REGIONAL PARK DISTRICT DOES RESOLVE to commend and
