HomeMy Public PortalAboutRES-CC-1997-01RESOLUTION 01-97 A RESOLUTION OPPOSING H.B. 98 UNLESS AMENDMENTS ARE MADE. WHEREAS, H.B. 98 would limit cities' authority to assess business license fees based on gross receipts; and WHEREAS, H.B. 98 would go into effect on July 1, 1997; and WHEREAS, revenues from gross business license fees comprise approximately 50% of Moab City's General Fund Revenues; and WHEREAS, H.B. 98 would cause a 25% loss in gross business license fee revenue for Moab City, NOW, THEREFORE, THE GOVERNING BODY of Moab City hereby resolves to oppose H.B. 98 unless the following amendments are made to the bill: 1. the maximum amount collectable for the Resort Community Sales Tax tax be 2%, instead of 1 1/2%; 2. the exemption that allows cities to assess an additional 1/2% Transient Room Tax to pay off bond obligations be written to include Moab; and 3. the effective date of this bill be changed to July 1, 1998.
