RESOLUTION URGING CHANGE IN SCHOOL FUNDING
THROUGH PROPERTY TAX REFORM
WHEREAS, local property taxes from New Jersey residents are an ever increasing
burden for New Jersey homeowners; and
WHEREAS, this burden has become increasingly unbearable for many residents,
particularly senior citizens of this state; and
WHEREAS, property taxes, being a non-progressive tax, result in the inequitable
distribution of the school tax burden.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough
of Carteret, that it hereby urges the State Legislature to devise a plan which shifts the
reliance for school funding from property taxes to a more progressive and fair funding
mechanism.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution be distributed to
State Senator, Joseph F. Vitale and Assemblywoman Arline M. Friscia and Assemblyman
John S. Wisniewski.
