Mutes • MOTION by Don Arthur to approve Minutes of April 10, 2013 Second by Elizabeth Taylor. VOTE: 4-0-1 { 2, Di cussion regarding the Open Space future of the Town of Brewster with rega ` s to future projects that various groups might think of proposing for grant cons eration. Mark Robinson-Executive Director of The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts • Compact was founded in 1983 • Original Land Bank 1999-2006 • Community Preservation 2007 to present • Brewster has done a good job identifying land and pursuing them • Brewster Conservation Trust has partnered with the Town Open Space Committee • In the last several years there have been several significant purchases; Bates Property and Mother's Bog • The compact and BCT go out and seek grants and funding • 40 of the top 200 significant parcels on Cape Cod are in Brewster • Properties are ranked in many different ways by the state; habitat, vernal pools, pond recharge areas, rare species, well fields, living waters and others • State wide ranked for Habitat in Brewster; the Punkhorn, ponds, marshes and Nickerson State Park • 3 major areas of interest; priorities, opportunities and threats. As they become available an approach is determined. • Hard to compete with development • Golf course has done a magnificent job in reducing nitrogen; with that and other purchases as well as awareness Brewster may save themselves from the serious issue of sewering that other towns are facing. • Funds are restricted because of paying off bonds. As some drop off, we will have more monies to work with.
