• Brewster Conservation Trust has partnered with the Town Open Space Committee
• In the last several years there have been several significant purchases; Bates
Property and Mother's Bog
• The compact and BCT go out and seek grants and funding
• 40 of the top 200 significant parcels on Cape Cod are in Brewster
• Properties are ranked in many different ways by the state; habitat, vernal pools,
pond recharge areas, rare species, well fields, living waters and others
• State wide ranked for Habitat in Brewster; the Punkhorn, ponds, marshes and
Nickerson State Park
• 3 major areas of interest; priorities, opportunities and threats. As they become
available an approach is determined.
• Hard to compete with development
• Golf course has done a magnificent job in reducing nitrogen; with that and other
purchases as well as awareness Brewster may save themselves from the serious
issue of sewering that other towns are facing.
• Funds are restricted because of paying off bonds. As some drop off, we will have
more monies to work with.
