Leesburg Council To Hire Dentler as Next Town Manager
Leesburg, VA (January 30, 2014) - The Leesburg Town Council voted on Tuesday, January 28,
2014 to hire Deputy Town Manager, Kaj Dentler, as Town Manager with a start date of October
4, 2014. Dentler will replace John Wells when Wells retires October 3rd. During his tenure with
Leesburg, Dentler has served as Director or Acting Director of several Town departments,
including Parks, Capital Projects, Planning, and the Airport. Mayor Kristen Umstattd stated that
the decision to provide an eight month transition period would allow Wells and Dentler to
ensure a smooth transition. "We have full confidence in Kaj's ability to continue and build on
the legacy that John Wells has created," said Umstattd, citing Wells’s work to make the Town
more responsive to citizen concerns, more business-friendly, and more fiscally secure. "Like
John, Kaj has a reputation for integrity, efficiency, frugality, and an appreciation of the
importance of excellent customer service. As a Town resident since 1998, and through his work
over the last several years, Kaj has shown a thorough understanding of what our citizens value
and how Leesburg works. We anticipate Kaj being in this position for many years." Wells
notified the Council last October that he would be retiring.
