AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, CHANGING,
AMENDING, AND MODIFYING THE ZONING CODE OF THE CITY OF
JEFFERSON, BY CREATING A NEW OVERLAY ZONING DISTRICT TO BE
TITLED THE NR NATIONAL REGISTER HISTORIC OVERLAY DISTRICT,
ESTABLISHING REGULATIONS THEREOF, AND AMENDING THE ZONING MAP
OF THE ZONING CODE BY ESTABLISHING SAID DISTRICT OVER SEVEN
EXISTING NATIONAL REGISTER DISTRICTS.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jefferson recognizes the need to preserve
and protect historic resources, and;
WHEREAS, the establishment of a national register historic overlay district and
zoning of existing national register districts as such would be of benefit
to the City and would further the goal of preserving the historic resources
of the City; and,
WHEREAS, it appears that the procedures set forth in the zoning code relating to
zoning code amendments have in all matters been complied with.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 35 (Zoning Code) is amended with the addition of a new
section 35-35 pertaining to creation of the National Register Historic Overlay district.
Section 35-35. National Register Historic Overlay.
A. The National Register Historic Overlay (NR) District is hereby zoned as historic and within the
NR District,all rights, benefits,and protections afforded under state or federal law to properties
and locations included on the National Register of Historic Places are hereby reserved to the
fullest extent allowed121 law.
B. The boundaries of the NR District shall be deemed to extend to and include all interior and
adjacent public rights of way.
Section 2. The Zoning Map of the Zoning code of the City of Jefferson is hereby
amended by designating the seven (7) areas of land within the following boundaries as NR
National Register Historic Overlay District: See attached Exhibit A
Section 3. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
and approval.
