AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AMENDING CHAPTER 8,
BUILDINGS AND BUILDING REGULATIONS, PERTAINING TO EXPANSION OF
ESTABLISHED LOCAL HISTORIC DISTRICTS.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Jefferson recognizes the need to preserve and
protect historic resources and notable architecture, and;
WHEREAS, a process for expansion of local historic districts would help to protect historic
resources and notable architecture.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON,
MISSOURI, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 8 (Buildings and Building Regulations) Sec. 8-44 (Nomination of
Historic Districts) is amended with the addition of a new sub-section E as follows:
E. Expansion of Established Historic District. Once a historic district is established la
ordinance under this section,such historic district may be expanded b application of the
owners of record of parcels seeking to be added to an established district. Such
additional parcels shall be within reasonable proximity to, and share historical features
in common with, the established local historic district. When an area containing ten or
more parcels seeks to be added to an established historic district, the application shall
contain at least seventy-five percent (75%) of all owners of record of the parcels seeking
to be added to the established district. Applications to expand a historic district shall be
reviewed under the same criteria set forth in Subsection C above and under the same
procedures applicable to original establishment of a historic district. A Historic district
shall not be expanded until approved b ordinance and any design criteria applicable to
the originally approved historic district shall apply equally to any expanded area,
provided that design criteria may be amended l ordinance following review b the
CJHPC and notice and hearing applicable to original enactment of design criteria.
Section 2. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
and approval. p
