Town of Leesburg to Hold Public Input Session on Proposed
Mervin Jackson Park in Downtown Leesburg
Leesburg, VA (February 26, 2014) – On Thursday, March 13, 2014, the Town of Leesburg will
hold a public input meeting on the proposed Mervin Jackson Park in downtown Leesburg. The
public input session will be held in the lower level meeting room at the Ida Lee Park Recreation
Center (60 Ida Lee Drive NW), beginning at 7:00pm.
The Leesburg Town Council recently approved the development of the two vacant Town-owned
parcels on the south side of the Town Hall Parking Garage, on Loudoun Street SW, as a public
park. The new park will be named after the late Vice Mayor of Leesburg, Mervin Jackson.
The public input session is an opportunity for staff to receive ideas from interested residents,
business owners and employees for the creation of an attractive, vibrant public space that best
serves the interests of the Town. Town staff will facilitate an open discussion, provide a
comprehensive list of potential amenities for consideration and provide examples of typical
levels of development. All attendees will be invited to record their preferences and concerns.
Town staff will use the information gathered at this public input session to develop several
design options which will be presented to the public at a follow-up meeting. The refined design
options will be presented to the Town Council for their consideration in June 2014.
