Oak Hills Advisory Committee Work Session
August 22, 2018
Call to Order
Committee Chair Andre Grinston called the meeting to order at Noon at the Oak Hills Golf Center Clubhouse, 932
Ellis Boulevard.
Attendance
Committee members present were Russell Rottmann, Wanda Roling, Steve Duncan, and Scott Englund. ,
Commissioners present were Chairman Andre Grinston and Stu Murphy. Staff present included, Senior
Management Analyst Tina Werner, Park Resources Division Director J.J. Gates, Program Manager Stephanie
Bruemmer, Administrative Assistant Amy Shaw, and Golf Course Superintendent Bryan Braun.
Financial Report
JJ Gates reported that this is a snapshot financial report for the year. He reported that revenue is down due to
the cold spring and slow start to the golfing season, but on expenses, staff is working to hold the line on
expenditures. Staff stated they are hopeful that some of the budget deficit can be overcome befo re the end of the
fiscal year.
Programming and Tournament 2018 Update
Stephanie Bruemmer distributed the tournament list for 2018 for committee members.
Bruemmer stated that she has sent by email the customer satisfaction survey to nearly 600 patrons. She is
hopeful that she will receive good feedback to allow for changes in programming needs.
Course/Maintenance Update
Bryan Braun talked about the report he included in the meeting packet. He spoke about the weather and the
factors that led to some of the maintenance issues this year. Braun stated that overall the greens are in good
shape, seem to be healthy, and have good color. Overall the fairway and tees are in good shape. Braun stated
that the surrounds and rough were hit hard due to the heat and drought conditions. Most of those areas seem to
be recovering now that rain is increasing and the cooler temperatures. Staff worked on the sand bunker
renovation that included replacing draining pipe as well as sand with a finer, more playable sand .
Braun spoke of the irrigation problems at the course. He reported that on June 29 th pump #2 went down.
Professional Turf Products (TORO) diagnosed and repaired the problems on August 9th.
Braun reported that routine maintenance continues at the c ourse, and the staff is very appreciative on the late
openings on Tuesday. This allows for the front nine to receive maintenance and allows staff to get ahead of the
golfers.
Overall, the course is in good shape. Staff plans to close the grass driving range tee on September 4th and will
perform fall fertilizer and chemical applications.
Golfer/Public Feedback
One comment was made about how hot it is under the canopy area. A suggestion was made to look at fans or
ceiling fans to help move the air.
Committee members stated they have heard many positive comments about the new golf carts.
