Minutes Cemetery Resources Board Meeting Thursday, August 16, 2018 Members Present: Nancy Thompson, Chair Tim Theroff, Vice -Chair Jeanne Rutledge Dawn Hackman Rebecca Gordon Members Absent: Pat Rowe Kerr Beth Bock Council Liaison: Mark Schreiber Staff: David Grellner, Environmental Health Manager Nancy Thompson called the meeting to order. A quorum was present. The Cemetery Resources Board met on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Thomas Jefferson Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. Approval of the Minutes: A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the June 21, 2018 meeting by Tim Theroff, Rebecca Gordon seconded. Minutes were approved. Old Business: Cemetery History Signage - Nancy Thompson has ordered the history signs for Woodland and Old City Cemetery. Nancy described which signs were made for the cemeteries and where the signs will be located. Discussion occurred about where to put the sign for the United States Colored Troops. Cemetery Veteran Gravestones - Nancy has gotten four confirmations for veteran tombstones she had applied for. She discussed with the board the other applications and how to obtain information that is needed for the application to be approved. Cemetery Preservation Workshop - Nancy spoke with Amanda Burke, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, regarding the Preservation Workshop coming up in spring 2019. 1 There is room for twenty-five students to attend the class. The Historic City of Jefferson stated the Caretaker Cottage at National Cemetery can be used for the classroom portion of the workshop. The sign-up for the workshop will be on a first come -first serve basis. Cemetery Resources Board Report - The Cemetery Resources Board Annual Report will be presented at the August 20, 2018 City of Jefferson Council Meeting at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. Cemetery Resources Board Members were all invited to attend. The National Registry Application has been approved and Woodland and Old City Cemetery will be placed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Discussion occurred between Cemetery Resources Board members about whether a plaque will be given to the City or will it have to be purchased. Election of Officers: The Cemetery Resources Board elected Tim Theroff as Chair of the Cemetery Resources Board and Nancy Thompson as the Co -Chair. It was also noted that Beth Bock, Cemetery Resources Board Member has resigned from her position due to moving out of the City of Jefferson. Other Topics and Issues: Nancy talked about other items such as the Daniel Colgan gravestone. She has talked with Capitol Monuments regarding the restoration cost of the gravestone. Capitol Monuments quoted a price of $1875.00 for restoration of the gravestone. Nancy stated more money will have to be raised to complete this project. The donated money is currently with the Historic City of Jefferson. Nancy reported that Dr. Tesfaye with Lincoln University is interested in completing a GIS mapping project of Woodland Cemetery. He stated it depends when the course is offered and if enough students take the course. Jolene Brown, American Heritage Girls, is interested in placing flags out for the veterans at Longview Cemetery. Nancy is currently coordinating a work day with the group in the near future. The next Cemetery Resources Board meeting was set for Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Thomas Jefferson Conference Room at City Hall.
