RESOLUTION NO. 78 -1730
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TEMPLE CITY URGING THE RESUMPTION OF OPER-
ATIONS AT MISSION CANYON LANDFILL
WHEREAS, the problem of waste disposal in Los Angeles County
is of vital concern to the health and welfare of all the citizens
of the County; and
WHEREAS, sanitation landfill is the best and, under today's
technology, the only economically feasible method of waste disposal;
and
WHEREAS, most existing landfills in the County are rapidly
filling up and will be closing in the near future, leaving only
Mission Canyon as a major waste disposal site serving large areas
of the County; and
WHEREAS, the City of Los Angeles has withheld extension of
necessary permits to allow continued operation of the Mission Canyon
Landfill and, unless such permits are granted and the landfill oper-
ation allowed to resume, the County and numerous other cities will
face a serious crisis in waste disposal:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Temple City, to call upon the City of Los Angeles imploring it
to recognize the crucial need for the Mission Canyon Landfill and
urge the City Planning Commission and City Council to approve the
necessary permits so that operations may be resumed at this essential
