HomeMy Public PortalAbout08/13/86 Special CCMThe Council of the City of Medina met in special session on Wednesday, August 13, 1986 at 7:00 P.M. 109 Present: Mayor, Thomas Anderson; Councilmembers, Wilfred Scherer, William Reiser, Robert Mitchell; Clerk -Treasurer, Donna Roehl 1. TWIN CITY MONORAIL, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND APPLICATION, PUBLIC HEARING, 7:00 P.M. Thomas Anderson explained that Twin City Monorail would like to make an application to the State for Economic Development funds to buy out a competitor in North Carolina. He stated that part of the operation would be carried out in Medina and the other portion in the City of Glenwood so the two cities would need to enter into a Joint Powers Agree- ment for the purpose of applying for the maximum amount allowed, $250,000. He explained that the cities would receive the first $100,000, plus interest, that is paid back and may use that money for any other economic development projects. He stated that the return of money to each city would be based on the amount of jobs created in that city. Donna Roehl explained that Glenwood would complete the application and prepare the Joint Powers Agreement for Medina's approval and because Twin City Monorail wished to finalize the purchase of the company on September 1st the Council was being asked to adopt a resolution authorizing that an application could be made. Moved by Mitchell, seconded by Scherer to close the Public Hearing. Motion declared carried Public Hearing was closed at 7:10 P.M. Moved by Reiser, seconded by Scherer to adopt Resolution 86-61, approving Medina's participation in making an application for Twin City Monorail to secure Economic Development Funds from the State of Minnesota Motion declared carried 2. POLICE OFFICER VACANCIES Thomas Anderson stated that Bruce Neumann had requested that he be allowed to be involved in the interview session for police officers. Councilmembers agreed that action taken at the August 5th meeting should not be altered; that is, Robert Franklin to take part in the interviewing; Bruce Neumann in the screening session.
