HomeMy Public PortalAbout2001/05/14 MAY 14, 2001 An Informal Meeting was held by the Mayor and Council of the INFORMAL Borough of Carteret on Monday, May 14, 2001, 6:30 P.M., Municipal MEETING Court/Police facility, 230 Roosevelt Avenue, Carteret, New Jersey. PRESENT pRESENT Upon individual roll call, the following were noted present: Mayor James A. Failace Councilmember Jack Fazekas " Remy Quinones ,, Daniel Reiman Ronald Rios Noted absent was Councilmembers Janet Santoro, Buddy Sohayda and ABSENT Business Administrator Nick Goldsack. Also noted present was Borough Attorney Robert Bergen, Patrick DeBlasio and Carteret Board of Education representatives. STATEMENT OF STATEMENT OF MEETiNG NOTICE MEETING NOTICE Mailed to The Home News Tribune, The Star Ledger and posted on the bulletin board on May 4, 2001. PURPOSE OF PURPOSE OF MEETiNG MEETING To meet with the Board of Education to discuss Defeated School Budget. DISCUSSION DISCUSSION Mayor Failace apologized for our auditors not being present. They will have to meet with them on Wednesday or Thursday. They did not finish their review. Councilmember Reiman asked about the surplus. Larry Aleksandfich said it is between $640,000.00 and $680,000.00. Councilmember Rios asked about the re-opening of Nathan Hale School and if it will reduce class sizes. Mr. Aleksandrich said that is one of their goals. Councilmember Rios asked about staff increases. HAY 14, 2001 DISCUSSION Mr. Aleksandrich explained that there will be 25 to 30 new positions, (CONTINUED) 27 of them in Nathan Hale School. He stated that 88% of the budget is a fixed number. Mayor Failace said the auditors should have something by tomorrow. ADJOURNED ADJOURNED There being no further discussion, upon MMS&C, by Councilmembers Reiman and Rios and unanimous affirmative vote of the four (4) members present, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 7:05 P.M.
