MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING
JULY 24, 1961
1. INITIATION:
The regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Temple
2. City was called to order by Mayor Dickason, who led the Pledge
of Allegiance to the Flag,
INVOCATION:
Invocation was given by Rev. Gudal of the Community Methodist
Church, Golden West and Woodruff.
4, ROLL CALL:
PRESENT: Councilmen Buchan, Merritt, Tyrell, Dickason
ABSENT: Councilman Fitzjohn, City Manager Woollett
ALSO PRESENT; Atty. Tom Lumsdon representing City Atty.Shatford.
5. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Mayor Dickason revised his statement made in line 10, Section 8,
of the Minutes to read as follows: "Mayor Dickason stated this
is a unique case which is the reason for the variance."
Also Mayor Dickason requested the recommendations from the Com-
missions be more condensed, and that the recommendations be ex-
tracted from the minutes of the Traffic Commission, referring
to item 9. Councilman Tyrell moved to adopt as amended the
minutes of the regular meeting of the Council on July 10, 1961, .
Councilman Merritt seconded, roll call vote as follows:
AYES: Councilmen- Buchan, Merritt, Tyrell, Dickason
NOES: Councilmen -None
ABSENT: Councilman - Fitzjohn
6. RESOLUTION NO. 61-149: Appointment Foreman- Grounds & Buildings.
Atty. Lumsdon read in full Resolution #61 -149, A RESOLUTION OF
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY APPOINTING CHARLES
A. RISTOW FOREMAN, BUILDINGS & GROUNDS. Following discussion
the reading in Section 11, line 4, was changed to be as follows:
"and thereafter each succeeding twelve months to a maximum of
$641.00 per month." Councilman Tyrell moved to adopt Resolution
#617149 as amended, Councilman Merritt seconded, roll call vote
as follows:
AYES: Councilmen- Buchan, Merritt, Tyrell, Dickason
NOES: Councilmen -None
ABSENT: Councilman - Fitzjohn
%. RESOLUTION NO. 6i -148: Warrants and Demands
Councilman Tyrell moved to adopt Resolution No. 61 -148 A RESOLU-
TION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY ALLOWING
CLAIMS & DEMANDS IN THE SUM OF $24,122.42 DEMAND NOS. 684
THROUGH 709, Councilman Buchan seconded, roll call vote as fol-
lows:
AYES: Councilmen- Buchan, Merritt, Tyrell, Dickason
NOES: Councilmen -None
ABSENT: Councilmen - Fitzjohn
8. COMMUNICATIONS:
a & b. Atty Lumsdon read letters from the Los Angeles County
Boundary Commission re annexation to Arcadia and one to El Monte
both uninhabited and not adjoining Temple City. Councilman
Tyrell moved to receive and file, Councilman Buchan seconded,
and carried,
9. TIME RESERVED FOR THOSE IN THE AUDIENCE WHO WISH TO ADDRESS THE
COUNCIL: None present wished to speak.
10. MATTERS FROM CITY OFFICIALS:
Mayor Dickason read a letter from the U.S.Committee for the
United Nations requesting the Council to proclaim October 24
as United Nations Day. Also to appoint a Chairman of United

Nations Day, as well as to appoint a United Nations Day Committee
for observance of United Nations Day. He stated he had contact-
Mr. Gene Mackay, who has agreed to take this Chairmanship, and
therefore Mr. Gene Mackey is appointed to this honorable commis-
sion.
ATTEST:
Following discussion it was decided that action regarding the
Proclamation will be taken at a later date.
ADJOURNMENT:
Councilman Tyrell moved to adjourn, Councilman Buchan seconded,
and carried, Council meeting adjourned at 8:30 P. M. until the
next regular meeting on August 14, 1361, at 7:30 P. M. at the
City Hall.
