HomeMy Public PortalAboutBrewster School Committee -- 2013-06-13 Minutes (2)r - Brewster School Committee d PF2TED June 13,2013 Library,Eddy Elementary School Present for the Committee: Chair Telman, Donna Kalinick,Brenda Cazeault,Trish Hill Chair Telman reconvened the meeting at 8:45 p.m. Dr. Hoffmann announced that Joanna Hughes was selected as the new Principal at the Eddy Elementary School. She is presently the Vice Principal at the Henry T.Wing School in Sandwich and will begin her new position on July 1'. Her background is in reading at the elementary level. Parents,staff and students will have a chance to meet her at a coffee hour that is being planned. Superintendent Hoffmann and Principal Gauley shared the transition plan with the committee. Mr.Gauley has met with Ms. Hughes several times and Ms. Hughes has met with Ann Harris,Mrs.Doucette,has reviewed the School Improvement Plan, and visited the students and parents on Field Day. FY 13 Budget Update Giovanna Venditti reviewed the Eddy School financial reports indicating a balance of$25,694. The end of year spending plan was also reviewed. Principal Gauley asked that the committee vote to approve the establishment of a gift account for the Eddy Playground and an account for the Eddy School store. Principal Gauley asked that the Committee use end-of-years funds to help with the cost of the new playground. After much discussion, it was the consensus of the committee not to use operating budget money for the playground and stressed the need for more fundraising. The Committee reminded everyone that at the fall Town Meeting the Committee will ask the town for funding for a new Kindergarten teacher,educational assistant and materials for the new classroom. They also indicated if there is savings, it should be returned to the town because they could be asking for an additional$80,000 For the new Kindergarten class. toi Motion: On a motion by Donna Kalinick, seconded by Brenda Cazeault it was voted unanimously to create an Eddy School Gift Account for the purpose of fundraising for the Eddy School playground. Motion: On a motion by Donna Kalinick, seconded by Trish Hill, it was voted unanimously to sanction approval of the formation of the school store. The Stony Brook Elementary School financial reports were also reviewed and the balance to date is$37,272. Ms. Venditti reviewed the end of year spending plan for Stony Brook Elementary School. Giovanna Venditti reviewed the revolving accounts and balances. It was noted that all the revolving accounts are handled by the town accountant with the exception of the cafeteria revolving account. Dr. Hoffmann indicated the need to spend the building use funds before June 30th and it was noted that Mr. Schofield has a list of things that can be funded with those funds. It was decided the Committee would reorganize at the next meeting when they have their new member, Marie Enochty. Bonny Gifford was thanked and wished the best in her new position as Superintendent of Falmouth Public Schools. Next Meeting: August 22nd at 6:00 p.m. ADJOURNMENT On a motion by Donna Kalinick, seconded by Trish Hill, it was voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 9:31 p.m., subject to payment of bills.
