Have you noticed.....
The traffic lights at Bellingham & State are now operating on a sensor
system? Gone are the days of red lights without a purpose! Cameras
have been installed that monitor traffic and control the cycling of
green/yellow/red lights. Enhanced traffic flow at Bellingham & State is
already being reported.
The DOT-approved pedestrian crossing at Bellingham & State remains
unchanged and is functioning properly.

* * * Budget News * * *
• The FY23 budget has been approved and certified on-time.
• Council funded the following capital improvement projects for FY23:
Woods Estates emergency access route, sanitary sewer rehabilitation
phase III, park equipment replacement, Fenno Drive rehabilitation,
Woods Estates trails system, fire department furnace replacement.
• The city has no current plans to change the way it funds trash,
recycling, or stormwater retention services; we'll continue to fund
these services through property taxes.
• In FY22, property owners paid $1.05/$1,000 of assessed value toward
debt service; in FY23, this amount is $0 as the city has no debt and no
plans to incur debt in the next fiscal year.
• Riverdale has the second lowest FY23 tax levy in the Iowa Quad

Message From the Fire Chief
I'm sad to announce that Riverdale Fire
Department Captain and Riverdale
resident Adrian Castillo will soon be
leaving us to take a position at a Fire
Department in his home state of Texas.
In the 6 years, he has been a member of
this department, Captain Castillo has
been a significant asset to our
community and to our Fire
Department. As a member of our Fire
Department, Adrian has built a strong
reputation of professionalism and has
responded to more emergency calls
than most any other firefighters. In
addition, he has obtained many
advanced fire and EMS certifications
including EMT, Firefighter 1 and 2, Fire
Officer 1, Fire inspector 1, and several
Technical Rescue specialties.
Captain Castillo has used his advanced
skills to further our Fire Department
training, passing on many of the skills
he has gained. Adrian has also
participated in many interdepartmental
competitions and water fights, notably
finishing second in the annual Coralville
Winter Water Fights, which is
considered one of the area’s most
prestigious, drawing Fire Departments
from across Iowa as well as from other
nearby states.
Riverdale Fire
Department
Captain Adrian
Castillo will be
sorely missed.
