HomeMy Public PortalAbout2022 02-February NewsletterHey, while we have your attention, quick question: On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being terrible and 10 being perfect), how do you think the new snow removal contractor is performing and why? Please email your responses and recommendations for improvement to mayor@riverdaleia.org by February 9th. Also, did you know? • The contractor should remove ice and snow from the pavement (curb to curb) no more than 24 hours after the precipitation ends for a snowfall below 6 inches. • The steepest hills and most highly traveled roads are prioritized for first plowing and salting, followed by roads that collect traffic from other roads (i.e. Kensington, Manor, Madison), followed by feeder roads that do not collect traffic from other roads. • The three bus stops will be cleared after the roads are completed. • Concrete roads less than 1 year in age and not yet conveyed to the City (Woods Estates Phase III) cannot be salted or plowed by our contractor. • At extremely cold temperatures, salt is less effective and refreezing of melted ice and snow may occur. The contractor has professional discretion in the use of salt to best create a safe surface to travel on. • If a police, fire, medical, water main break, or other emergency were to arise, the contractor could, upon request, leave the public right- of-way to clear an area for emergency personnel; otherwise, residents are required to clear all snow and ice from private driveways left by plowing operations. Contractor will work with the City to minimize impact to residents. • If damage to property (e.g. mailboxes) occurs, residents should contact City Hall. The contractor is required to repair/replace damaged property. • State Street (US-67) , Valley Drive, and Belmont Road are plowed by other entities; concerns with these streets should be relayed to the City, and the City will coordinate with those entities.
