Email your response to mayor@riverdaleia.org Canadian Pacific Updates Canadian Pacific (CP) representatives came to Riverdale on February 23rd to meet with Mayor Heddlesten about the CP-KC merger that we shared in our previous newsletter. You should know that the expected intersection disruption in our neighborhoods should be approximately 21 crossings for up to 3 minutes per crossing on the average train. If you ever notice a train blocking an intersection for more than 10 minutes, please call the number listed at the intersection and file a complaint with CP AND let the city know that you’ve done this for our records. It doesn’t matter what company’s train is on the tracks, call the number on the intersection for CP as it is their rail line. Iowa Code 327G.32 regulates the time at intersections. We also discussed two grant programs to help fund quiet zone approved crossings including the 130 and CRISI programs. We hope to look into these and additional opportunities to minimize impacts from the increased traffic and improve intersection safety within our community. * * * Budget News * * * The city will again have a balanced budget in FY23 and is proposing a smaller total levy than our 5 year average. Major capital projects for FY23 include Woods Estates/Pleasant Hills Emergency Access, rehabilitation of the US-67 trunk sewer, Woods Estates hiking trails, park equipment improvements, Fenno Drive repairs & widening project engineering, and a new furnace at the fire department. Our top few standard operating costs include personnel, sewer bill to Davenport, garbage and recycling fees, and engineering services. It's noteworthy to mention that the city is debt-free!
