HomeMy Public PortalAboutTOL PR 2014-04-16 Mervin Jackson Park designs Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Proposed Designs for Mervin Jackson Park on Display at Leesburg Town Hall Public input session on proposed park in downtown Leesburg will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014, at Ida Lee Park Recreation Center Leesburg, VA (April 16, 2014) – A series of possible designs for the proposed Mervin Jackson Park in downtown Leesburg are currently on display in the lobby of the Leesburg Town Hall (25 West Market Street). The four design options are the result of feedback received from residents at the March 13th public input meeting on desired amenities and intensity of development for the new park. The designs will be on display at the Town Hall until 5:00pm on Friday, April 18, 2014. The designs will then be on display at Ida Lee Park Recreation Center until Friday, April 25, 2014. On Monday, April 21, 2014, Town staff will hold a second public input session to receive feedback on the proposed designs. The meeting will take place in conjunction with the Parks & Recreation Commission’s monthly meeting at 6:00pm in the lower level meeting room at Ida Lee Park Recreation Center (60 Ida Lee Drive NW). In February, the Leesburg Town Council approved the development of the two vacant Town- owned parcels on the south side of the Town Hall Parking Garage, on Loudoun Street SW, as a public park. The new park will be named after the late Vice Mayor of Leesburg, Mervin Jackson. Following the meeting with the Parks & Recreation Commission on April 21, staff will present refined design options to the Leesburg Commission on Public Art, the Board of Architectural Review, the Leesburg Economic Development Commission and the Tree Commission at those (more) TOL PR 2014-04-16 Mervin Jackson Park design options Page 2 commissions’ regular monthly meetings in May 2014. In June 2014, staff will make a final design presentation and recommendation to the Leesburg Town Council.
