Cemetery Resources Board Meeting

Tim Theroff called the meeting to order. A quorum was present.
The Cemetery Resources Board met on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Thomas
Jefferson Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson
City, Missouri.
Approval of the Minutes:
A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the August 16, 2018 meeting by Nancy Thompson,
Jeanne Rutledge seconded. Minutes were approved.
Old Business:
Cemetery History Signage - Nancy Thompson reported that cemetery signs should be completed by the
end of September. Money has been allocated for the project. The Cemetery Resources Board will look
at locations on the tour of the cemeteries this morning.
Cemetery Preservation Workshop - Nancy Thompson reported the date for the workshop will be set
after the first of the year. Board members discussed what day would be better to have the workshop
on, a weekday or Saturday. Board members thought a Thursday may be appropriate for the workshop.
The workshop can have up to twenty-five people attend. The Historic City of Jefferson Caretaker
Cottage will be used for the classroom setting, with Woodland and Old City Cemetery as the training
grounds.

Cemetery Veteran Gravestones - Nancy mentioned that eight veteran tombstones needed funding so
they can be placed in the cemeteries. Nancy stated that possible grant money through the Historic City
of Jefferson could be obtained to fund these gravestones.
Gone but Not Forgotten Memorial - Pat Rowe Kerr is planning to donate money toward projects in the
cemeteries this fall. One of the projects is to add names to the "Gone but Not Forgotten Memorial'. The
other projects mentioned were to fund the rest of the Daniel Colgan gravestone restoration project and
funding for purchase of the veteran gravestones. Discussion regarding these projects will occur at the
next Cemetery Resources Board Meeting.
New Business: The Cemetery Resources Board completed an onsite tour of Woodland and Old City
Cemetery. Members discussed the placement of the educational signs and locations of the veteran
gravestones. They also looked at the restored gravestones completed by Capital Monuments. The
Daniel Colgan gravestone was also looked at for restoration ideas.
Other Topics and Issues:
The next Cemetery Resources Board Meeting was set for Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in
the Thomas Jefferson Conference Room at City Hall.
