TURN PAGE OVER Don’t forget to VOTE for Mayor and Council on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Stay tuned for further information! Candidates: Mayor: Anthony Heddlesten Council: Vince Jurgena, Beth Anne Halsey, Paul DCamp October Is Fire Prevention Month. Now is a perfect time to talk about the biggest thing you can do to protect yourself and your family from fire. Make sure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. If your home has no smoke detectors, or if you are unsure of the placement of the ones you have, keep in mind the recommended minimum is one detector per floor. However current National Fire Prevention Association guidelines require that, in addition to one per floor, all bedrooms should have their own. If you would like information on placement, you can check out the NFPA’s website at NFPA.org. Some smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are battery powered, and some are wired directly into your homes power. Either way, they have a life span of no more than 10 years, so if you can’t remember when you installed them you should check them out. There should be a date of manufacture printed on them, if they are 10 years old or more, they should be replaced. The batteries still need to be changed at least once per year. Some people recommend changing them when you set your clocks back for daylight saving time since that is a good reminder every year, or you can change them every October for fire prevention month. If you need any help with your smoke detectors, or anything emergency related, please call us at the fire station at (563) 355-2211, and we would be glad to help. Remember we are a volunteer department, so it may be a day or so before we can get back to you. If it is an actual emergency, please call 911.
