Woodland, District D Councilor Watertown Town Council Administration Building 149 Main Street Watertown, MA 02472 Phone: 617-972-6470 Report of the Committee on Economic Development and Planning Meeting Date: February 4, 2020 The Committee convened on Tuesday February 4, 202 at 5:30 pm in the Town Council Office. Present were Kenneth Woodland, chair; Lisa Feltner, vice chair; and Vincent Piccirilli, secretary. The purpose of the meeting was to conduct interviews for the Historic District Commission. Robert Bloomberg is seeking appointment to the Historic District Commission. Trained as a historian, he has authored many articles, including a recent column for the Historical Society of Watertown's newsletter on the Shick family and their dairy farm on Grove Street. He believes it is important to not only preserve historic buildings, but also the historic landscape surrounding them. 4 Action Item: Councilor Piccirilli made a motion, seconded by Councilor Feltner, to recommend that the Town Council confirm Robert Bloomberg for appointment to the Historic District Commission for a term to expire November 15, 2020. Voted 3-0. Harvey Steiner is an artist who lives in the District and has served on the Commission since its creation in 2003, and is seeking reappointment. He serves as Chair, and discussed some past successes of the Commission. He has worked with the Planning Department and the DPW to design the signs identifying the District, and hopes they will be installed as part of the Mt. Auburn Street project. 4 Action Item: Councilor Piccirilli made a motion, seconded by Councilor Feltner, to recommend that the Town Council confirm Harvey Steiner for reappointment to the Historic District Commission for a term to expire November 15, 2022.
