Leesburg Students Participate in “Fourth Grade Foresters”
Arbor Day Program at Cool Spring Elementary School
Leesburg, VA (April 30, 2014) –
On Friday, April 24, 2014,
students from Cool Spring and
John W. Tolbert Elementary
Schools in Leesburg participated
in a special Arbor Day celebration,
along with Mayor Kristen
Umstattd, Vice Mayor David
Butler, Leesburg Supervisor Ken
Reid and members of the
Leesburg Tree Commission.
Sponsored by the Leesburg Tree
Commission, this year’s Arbor Day celebration included the planting of a Norway Spruce tree at
Cool Spring Elementary School. In addition, fourth graders from Cool Spring Elementary and
John W. Tolbert Elementary Schools received tree saplings to take home and plant, courtesy of
the Leesburg Tree Commission.
"It is a tribute to our Town and community that so many participated in this celebration,” said
Tom Seeman, chairman of the Leesburg Tree Commission. “The planting of this one tree is
symbolic of the much larger efforts taken by the Town to enhance, preserve, and expand the
tree canopy in Leesburg. As evidence of this commitment, this is the 25th year in a row that
Leesburg has been certified as a Tree City USA by the national Arbor Day Foundation."
