Report of the Committee on Economic Development and Planning
Meeting Date: February 10, 2020
The Committee convened on Monday February 10, 2020 at 6:15 pm in the Town
Council Office. Present were Kenneth Woodland, chair; Lisa Feltner, vice chair; and
Vincent Piccirilli, secretary.
The purpose of the meeting was to conduct interviews for the Historic District
Commission.
Linda Sternberg is an attorney who lives in the District and has served on the
Commission since its creation in 2003, and is seeking reappointment. She sees the
upcoming Mt Auburn St reconstruction as an opportunity to achieve the Commission's
long-standing goal to install signs identifying the District, and perhaps further
differentiate the District with sidewalk treatments and decorative light poles.
4 Action Item: Councilor Piccirilli made a motion, seconded by Councilor Feltner, to
recommend that the Town Council confirm Linda Sternberg for reappointment to the
Historic District Commission for a term to expire November 15, 2022.
Voted 3-0.
James Bensinger is a Physics Professor who lives in the District, and is seeking
appointment to the Historic District Commission. He is a member of the Historical
Society, feels that Watertown has an important place in the history of Massachusetts,
and wants to help preserve the historic look and feel of the District as much as possible.
4 Action Item: Councilor Piccirilli made a motion, seconded by Councilor Feltner, to
recommend that the Town Council confirm James Bensinger for appointment to the
Historic District Commission for a term to expire November 15, 2021.
Voted 3-0.
The meeting adjourned at 6:40 pm.
