Leesburg Farmers Market Opens For the Season on Saturday,
May 3, 2014
Leesburg, VA (April 30, 2014) – Five
“producer only” farmers markets in
Loudoun County will open for the season,
beginning on Saturday, May 3, 2014. The
Leesburg Farmers Market, located in the
parking lot of the Virginia Village Shopping
Center, on Catoctin Circle SE, will open at
8:00am. Vice Mayor David Butler will mark
the occasion with a ribbon cutting
ceremony. Following the ribbon cutting,
volunteers will run a children’s scavenger
hunt. The market will be open until 12:00 noon.
Sponsored by the Loudoun Valley HomeGrown Markets Cooperative (LVHMC), this year’s
markets will be promoting a healthy lifestyle. As writer and local food advocate Michael Pollan
states, ”Cooking from scratch is the single most important thing we could do as a family to
improve our health and general well-being."
The LVHMC’s goal is to get more families cooking at home by promoting the message that using
fresh local products is worth the trip to the market. As part of that effort, at the ribbon cutting
ceremony, Vice Mayor Butler will recognize the team of volunteers that worked to bring SNAP
(Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) to the Leesburg Farmers Market.
Farmers markets in Ashburn, Cascades and Brambleton will also open on Saturday. In addition,
the Leesburg Midweek Market, also located at Virginia Village Shopping Center, will open on
Wednesday, May 7th at 2:30pm. For times, locations, vendor lists and more information for all
of the LVHMC markets, please visit www.loudounfarmersmarkets.org.
