1. Developments regarding 501c3: Barry and Jane have come up with a suggested set of bylaws
that could be used by a (yet to be formed) group to go forward with the establishment of a
Friends organization. They have a draft of what could become the group charter.
2. Discussion of public outreach: Arlen Johnson of Milford introduced himself. Arlen has
organized a “Hit the Trail for Charity” walk on the Milford Upper Charles Trail on 10/12/14.
The funds that are raised from this event will be distributed to participating trails Friends
groups. UCTC members agreed that we need a core group to become a Hopkinton Friends
organization and then go from there. Arlen offered to help us set up a 501c3. Eric suggested
that Arlen work with Barry, Jane, Lee Walker, and Tom Click on the 501c3 setup. Lee and
Tom have indicated to Mike that they would be willing to become the core of the Hopkinton
Friends Group. Mike volunteered to design and procure UCTC tee shirts for members to
wear at PolyArts and subsequent town events. Gary suggested that it would be a good idea to
encourage the Hopkinton Trails Club to be active participant in the Friends group.
3. Potential site walks: A walk of the Fecteau property was proposed. Walk to begin at the
Hopkinton Senior Center at 11AM on 9/6/14.
4. Connecting with other boards and commissions: Eric noted that the CPC has a meeting next
week to reorganize. Gary suggested that the Center Trail Extension will be coming up soon
with the Conservation Commission. Mike knew of no new developments with Finley Perry’s
proposed development.
5. State funding for trails: The governor has signed the Environmental Bond Bill. The
implications of this act for UCTC are to be determined.
6. New business: Jane mentioned that a certain East Main Street parcel has come up for sale.
Members agreed to continue to review this matter at the next meeting.
7. Meeting was adjourned at 8:18PM.
