HOPKINTON 300TH ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE
OCTOBER 7, 2014, 4:30 PM
TOWN HALL, ROOM 215
Minutes
I. Call to Order: Chair Jean Bertschmann opened the meeting at 4:40 pm with the following
members present:
Jean Bertschmann, Chair Scott Richardson (left – 5:50 pm)
Hanan Cohen (absent) Craig Stanley
Michelle Murdock (late arrival – 4:45 pm) Associate Member: Ann Click
Also present: Rob Levine, Nadine Heaps, Laura Barry, Rownak Hussain, Beth Mezzitt, Tim Kilduff
II. Acceptance of Minutes
On a motion made by Craig Stanley, seconded by Scott Richardson, the Committee voted to accept
the minutes of the meeting of September 16, 2014.
Vote: Favor: 3 Oppose: 0 Abstain: 0 Absent: 2 (Michelle Murdock, Hanan Cohen)
III. Reports to the Committee
Chair Report
The November 4, 2015 meeting has been cancelled. Parks and Rec voted to support the
commemorative stone for the Gazebo, pending design. The Board of Selectmen voted
to support the calendar of events and budget at its 9/23/14 meeting. The Fireworks
review meeting will take place at the October 21, 2014 meeting.
Friends Report
Ann Click provided the Committee with a report from the Friends Committee as follows:
1. Farmers Market: 10/19/14
2. Bottle Drive at Colella’s : 10/11/14
3. Train Depot starting Oct 25 Saturdays 10‐2 and Sundays 11‐1 through the end of
November
4. Friends made $451 at the Oct 4 pancake breakfast sponsored by the Knights of
Columbus
5. Tickets for the Oct 25 Ham & Bean Supper funded by the Friends are available at
Country Plus, Snappy Dog, Oct 19th Farmer’s Mkt, the Bottle Drive and may be ordered
by phone.
6. Friends voted down selling J Wards ‘s book.
7. Friends have sold have sold 23 ornaments. The ornaments will be sold at Country Plus,
the Swoon and the Train Depot, as well as by the Boy Scouts in November and
December. The invoice for the ornament was submitted to Hanan for payment on Aug
27.
8. The coasters were received and the invoice for the coasters was submitted to Hanan on
Oct. 4.
9. Hanan approved the order for hats, visors, fleece jackets and vests. Merchandise has
been received and Hanan will be receiving the invoice shortly.
10. Friends will discuss the opportunity to sell merchandise at the 12/6 Holiday Stroll.
IV. New Business
A. “Birds‐eye” Illustration
Rob Levine and Nadine Heaps presented their “Birds‐eye View” concept to the
Committee. They create an historical streetscape on a banner, and offer the
opportunity for communities to research and add historical context via a qrt code. The
Committee asked clarifying questions and will consider the proposal at a later meeting.
B. Library Events
The Committee discussed several partnerships with the Library. The Friends of the
Library will co‐sponsor 2 historical lectures with the 300th Committee, and will offer
additional lectures which will be included in the 300th Calendar of Events. Beth Mezzitt
will follow up with the Historical Society regarding a partnership on a children’s program
for the Library Birthday party. The Party will be scheduled for 1/24/15, and will be
included in the 300th Calendar of Events. The Library will house the Time Capsule – in
the form of a bench – and also host a Memory Book for residents to drop by and share
reflections on Hopkinton. The Library is not able to offer and All‐Town Reading series at
this time.
C. Marathon Events
The Committee discussed an event with Tim Kilduff regarding the history of the
Marathon, and the connections to Hopkinton. Tim is hoping to donate a marble marker
from the Parthenon to the town during the anniversary year, and will work on an event
to be scheduled just prior to the Marathon which will be included on the 300th
Anniversary Calendar of Events.
V. Old Business
A. Commemorative Book Update
Kathleen Culler provided an update regarding the progress on the Book, and a reminder
of deadlines. Sponsor information is needed in the next few weeks.
B. Merchandising Update
Ann Click presented a merchandising update to the Committee.
C. Merchandising Logo
On a motion made by Craig Stanley, seconded by Michelle Murdock, the Committee
voted to approve the revised Merchandising Logo.

D. Banners and Brackets
Postponed to a future meeting.
E. Anniversary Calendar
Postponed to a future meeting.
F. Anniversary Budget
Jean Bertschmann reminded all committee members to complete their quarterly budget
analysis and send it to Hanan.
VI. Adjournment
On a motion made by Craig Stanley, seconded by Michelle Murdock, the Committee voted to adjourn at
6:00 pm.
