Present:Tom Rogers, Bob Bersin,Jimmy Jones and Janet Hicks
Meeting opened at 10:05 am
Jimmy Jones(DPW foreman)reports that there are gravestones and pieces of same at the DPW.The
DPW would like them moved to an appropriate location. The stones had been in the DPW building but
were moved to the outdoor gated storage area when a new furnace was installed. The stones had been
in the COA basement and they were moved to DPW.The Commission had worked on the stones piecing
them together and placed some of them in the Ancient Burial Grounds. An appropriate permanent
location needs to be found for these remaining stones.
BMC Section A—Marker instillation for the section will be done after the filled area is leveled and tree
removed in Section B. Bob will order the markers and discs. Brad from Coastal Engineering will then be
contacted for installation. Markers are missing in Section B.The granite markers and metal discs for A
should be more durable.
BMC Section C—the green burial location. Maybe an informational brochure should be available to
people interested in green burial.
Ancient Burial Grounds—Bob reports that the gate is open and fixed in place by a granite stone. This
allows safe entry to the cemetery.
BCC"charge"—The information is dated 11/1/1998 with an update on 7/7/2008 to increase the number
of members to 5. If there are no interested people to fill the 3 vacant positons, could we go back to 3
members??We need to consider that Tom and Janet are usually away for 3 to 4 months in the winter.
Bob will speak with Charlie concerning this situation.
Ancient Burial Ground—The display case needs to be fixed. The plexiglass is "foggy".Tom will check with
Cape Glass for suggestions. We will also need to fix the interior display that has been damaged by
moisture.
Cemetery materials—The water wagon is no longer usable. We have D2 at the DPW which is available to
for gravestone cleaning.Tom will have the cleaning tools available when needed.
In the northeast corner of the ABG cemetery there is what looks like a pile of cement pieces.Jimmy will
check that out.
Funding for cemetery work and preservation—Does the Perpetual Care fund have funds available?
Could some of this money be used to replace the granite stones and pipe fence at ABG.
Meeting adjourned at 11:15
Next meeting August 21st 2014.
