City, Missouri.
Approval of the Minutes:
A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the September 20, 2018 meeting by Jeanne
Rutledge, Nancy Thompson seconded. Minutes were approved.
Old Business:
Cemetery History Signage -Nancy Thompson reported that cemetery signs in Woodland and Old City
Cemetery have been installed. David Grellner provided pictures of the signs for review. Nancy stated
she will have students from various schools taking tours of the cemeteries this fall.
Cemetery Preservation Workshop -Nancy Thompson reported no new information regarding the
Cemetery Preservation Workshop. Details for the workshop will be forthcoming after the first of the
year. Nancy explained the history to new board member Pam Wren.
Cemetery Veteran Gravestones- Discussion occurred between board members regarding the veteran
gravestones in Woodland and Old City Cemetery. Capital Monuments will be setting four veteran
gravestones this week. There are still eight veteran gravestones that need to be purchased. Nancy
stated Capital Monument Company has provided a price of $750.00 per gravestone that would match
the gravestones provided by the Federal Government. The Cemetery Resources Board discussed
possible funding options for these gravestones.

Nancy stated she is working on a grant to help fund this project. Pat Rowe Kerr suggested contacting
the American Legion and VFW regarding support of the project. Also, Nancy is talking with Lincoln
University regarding help with the project. Pat also suggested talking to Rod Chapel and the Veteran
Council for support. Jeanne Rutledge mentioned press for this project would also help gain support.
Gone but Not Forgotten Memorial -Nancy gave a brief history of the memorial. Nancy discussed the
generous donations that have been given to support the project and now progress can be made to place
more names on the monument. Nancy also discussed using the donated money to purchase small
gravestones for placement at the large tablet stones so information is not lost regarding these burials. A
motion was made by Jeanne Rutledge for placement of these small gravestones at the tablet stones
locations in Old City Cemetery (approximately 22 gravestones), Pat Rowe Kerr seconded, motion passed.
New Business:
David Grellner gave an update on the donation of a flag pole and flag by Mr. James Ludy. Mr. Ludy
wishes to donate a thirty-foot flag pole in Longview Cemetery to honor the veterans buried there. This
was brought to the Cemetery Resources Board in 2016 which voted for the approval of this project.
Mr. Ludy now has funding for the project and would like to see it completed. David Grellner stated that
an agreement with American Heritage Company in St. Louis, Missouri has been created for installation
of the flag pole with Mr. Ludy paying for the installation. Mr. Ludy picked American Heritage Company
as his choice for installation of the flag pole. The City of Jefferson will need to maintain the flag pole
after its installation.
Other Topics and Issues:
Pat mentioned that the docents at the Missouri Governors' Mansion discuss Carrie Crittenden during
their tours of the mansion. She mentioned giving information to Rebecca Gordon about Carrie
Crittenden that relates to the monument in Woodland Cemetery erected in 2016 for the tour.
Pam Wren gave the idea of creating a sign just like the Woodland/Old City Cemetery information sign
created this past month for placement of names like on the Gone but Not Forgotten Monument. This
may be a way to add more names economically for those who do not have a grave marker in Old City
Cemetery.
The next Cemetery Resources Board meeting was set for Thursday, November 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in
the Thomas Jefferson Conference Room at City Hall.
Adjournment:
With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
David Grellner
