Sycolin Road to Reopen on Tuesday, August 12, 2014
Leesburg, VA (July 28, 2014) – On Tuesday, August 12, 2014, Virginia, Loudoun County and
Leesburg officials will celebrate the reopening of Sycolin Road. Virginia Secretary of
Transportation, Aubrey Layne, Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York and
Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstattd will be joined by senior VDOT officials, members of the
Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and Leesburg Town Council Members to officially open
the new bridge over the Route 7/15 Bypass with a ribbon cutting at 10:00am.
Sycolin Road was closed in June 2013 for the construction of the bridge over the Bypass,
eliminating the dangerous at-grade intersection. At 12:00pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2014,
Sycolin Road will be reopened to traffic, restoring a major north-south route into and out of
downtown Leesburg. Construction on the sound barriers and other elements of the new
overpass project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2014. The Town of
Leesburg’s work on a portion of Sycolin Road will be completed by the end of the year.
Parking for the ribbon cutting on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, will be on Sycolin Road, between
Gateway Drive and the new bridge, on the north side of the bridge.
