HomeMy Public PortalAbout2018-08-09 minutesCity of Jefferson Police Personnel Board Minutes- August 9, 2018 The meeting was called to order at 12:02 p.m. Six persons attended as follows: BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT (5) STAFF PRESENT (1 Ms. Lisa Lehman (Secretary) Lt. Jeff Stiefermann Mr. Stacey Backues (Vice-Chair) Mr. Kemp Shoun Mr. Bill Burton (Chair) Mr. Dan Klindt BOARD MEMBERS ABSENT (1) Stephanie Scruggs Following greetings, roll call was taken. Approval of May 17, 2018 minutes It was moved by Klindt and seconded by Backues that minutes from both the open and closed session from the May 17, 2018 Board meeting, be approved. The motion was carried unanimously. Old Business Hiring update-Lt. Stiefermann announced that the final interviews were completed last week by Chief Schroeder and the position of Police Information Clerk was filled by Shelley McDowell; Shelley is transferring from the City’s Finance Department where she has worked for the past 6 years. She was also previously employed with JCPD as a communications operator from 1999-2012. She will begin employment with the Police Department within two weeks. Lt. Stiefermann further announced that two Police Officers were hired, leaving one vacancy for Police Officer at this time. Both of these newly hired Police Officers will begin employment/orientation on Monday, August 13, 2018, and will begin classes at the Law Enforcement Training Institute at the University of Missouri in Columbia on August 22nd, 2018. Lt. Stiefermann lastly announced that the last four candidates for Communications Operator were interviewed by Chief Schroeder and a final decision has not yet been made for the one current vacancy the Department has. An update on this will be announced at the next Police Personnel Board meeting. New Business Lt. Stiefermann explained that due to Captain Shoemaker leaving the department for another position; there have been some Promotions, Assignments, and transfers within the Department as follows: Lt. Deric Heislen – promoted to the rank of Captain and will assume command of the Support Services Division. Deric has been with the department for 20 years and has been a lieutenant since 2007. Sgt. Chad Stiefermann – promoted to the rank of lieutenant and assigned to the Support Services Division under the command of Captain Heislen. Chad has been with the department for 15 years and served as a sergeant for approximately four years. Officer Robert Shearer – promoted to the rank of sergeant and assigned to the Operations Division under the command of Captain Wilde. Robert has been with the department for 13 years. Captain Clark – transfer from the Operations Division to the Special Services Division. Captain Wilde --will assume command of the Operations Division. Lt. Williams – assigned to the Office of Professional Standards as the training coordinator and certification manager and work in conjunction with Lt. J. Stiefermann. He will also serve as the primary police information officer. Lt. McCutchen – remain in the operations Division and report to Captain Wilde, and Lt. Weaver will remain in the Special Services Division and report to Captain Clark. Officer Erik Boyum – assigned to the position of School resource Officer within the Community Services Section, under the supervision of Sgt. Jason Payne. Community Action Team (CAT) – transferring to Special Services Division under the command of Captain Clark. Traffic Unit – transferring to the Operations Division under the command of Captain Wilde. Other Business Burton opened discussion regarding a vacancy on the Police Personnel Board due to Rick Derks resignation.
