chicken survey. Clerk Keyes said not many had. Chairman Case asked the other
member's opinions regarding the issue. PZ member Beazer said his neighbor had
chickens and dogs and the only thing he could hear was the dogs. PZ member Beazer
suggested restricting lot size and the number of chickens. Chairman Case asked if the
members thought that one -quarter acre lots were too small. The members agreed that one -
quarter acre were too small. Chairman Case suggested allowing chickens with a
conditional use permit for better control of the animals and allow between 5 and 10
chickens depending on the lot size. PZ members Hobbs and Beazer agreed.
Chairman Case asked Clerk Keyes to obtain a current zoning map to help identify the lots
in Iona that were considered residential -agriculture. Clerk Keyes said she would work on
obtaining a current map.
Windmill ordinance. PZ members Beazer and Hobbs said they visited a home that had a
residential windmill. They said it was very quiet, and the owner was receiving a $75
monthly return form the power company.
Chairman Case asked if the members had the opportunity to begin an ordinance draft. PZ
member Hobbs had a model ordinance that would be appropriate for the City. PZ
member Hobbs said the model ordinance required a one-half acre minimum lot size.
The Commission members agreed some of the areas of concern were; proof of
homeowners insurance, releasing the City of any liability, all electrical wires must be
buried, no guy wires allowed, limiting the number of windmills on a property.
Chairman Case asked if the City should also consider allowing commercial windmills,
the members agreed to only allow residential windmills.
Chairman Case asked the Commission members to review the model ordinance and make
any adjustments they feel were necessary. A final review will take place next at the

regarding code and law enforcement in Iona. Chairman Case said he had heard of some
1
untrue rumors going around about the Chief and asked the Commission to help educate

people had to have negative feelings toward the greater good of the City.
Chairman Case said he had served for three years on the commission and would be
retiring from his position in August. Chairman Case also said that PZ member Bateman
would be turning in his resignation because his job required him to travel often, and he
