Jerry Hansen welcomed everyone out to the Iona Planning and Zoning Commission's
Open House. Jerry explained that the Planning and Zoning Commission is a
recommendation committee not a decision making committee. He thanked Brian
Stutzman for tallying the results from the Comprehensive Plan Survey and turned the
time over to Brian to explain the survey.
Jerry introduced Kurt Hibbert. He is a Community Development Specialist and is
helping us with our Comprehensive Plan. Kurt explained the book he has compiled of
the City of Iona Comprehensive Master Plan draft and the map. He explained the process
the City needs to go through to adopt the Comprehensive plan. Jerry said it is only a
guide for us and we have a right to say how we want it to go. Kurt mentioned that if
there is anything in the policies and goals he would like for the citizens to add or take out.
The Comprehensive Plan draft will be on the Cities' web page to view.
Jerry mentioned the traffic will be a problem once the development goes in upon the
foothill toward Bone. We need to have roadways looked at and work with the county.
Adrian Beazer explained the map he drew up extending our impact area.
Kurt said we have a good impact area. He would like to see the county adopt our plan.
Council member Scott Long explained that we have been trying for a couple of years to
work with the county.
Council member Dennis McArthur asked what the next step is. Jerry said we need to
meet with the county. He will recommend it to the Council and a Public Hearing will be
held November 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The City Council will have their Public
Hearing Dec. 18th
Kurt explained that a Comprehensive Plan is never done. It can be changed and updated.
Kurt complimented the City on what a fantastic community we have here.
Meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
