AT THE COMMUNITY CENTER PRESENT: P/Z Chairman Jerry Hansen, commission members Brian Stutzman, Adrian Beazer, City Clerk Betty McKinlay COUNCIL MEMBERS: Scott Long, Dennis McArthur and Steve Elliott VISITORS: Kurt Hibbert, Don and Gloria Andersen, Lynn Morgan, Darrin and Sue Forman and Son, Robert and Jean Koepplin, Lynn McKinlay, Sally Price Jerry Hansen welcomed everyone out to the Iona Planning and Zoning Commission's Open House. Jerry explained that the Planning and Zoning Commission is a recommendation committee not a decision making committee. He thanked Brian Stutzman for tallying the results from the Comprehensive Plan Survey and turned the time over to Brian to explain the survey. Jerry introduced Kurt Hibbert. He is a Community Development Specialist and is helping us with our Comprehensive Plan. Kurt explained the book he has compiled of the City of Iona Comprehensive Master Plan draft and the map. He explained the process the City needs to go through to adopt the Comprehensive plan. Jerry said it is only a guide for us and we have a right to say how we want it to go. Kurt mentioned that if there is anything in the policies and goals he would like for the citizens to add or take out. The Comprehensive Plan draft will be on the Cities' web page to view. Jerry mentioned the traffic will be a problem once the development goes in upon the foothill toward Bone. We need to have roadways looked at and work with the county. Adrian Beazer explained the map he drew up extending our impact area. Kurt said we have a good impact area. He would like to see the county adopt our plan. Council member Scott Long explained that we have been trying for a couple of years to work with the county. Council member Dennis McArthur asked what the next step is. Jerry said we need to meet with the county. He will recommend it to the Council and a Public Hearing will be held November 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The City Council will have their Public Hearing Dec. 18th Kurt explained that a Comprehensive Plan is never done. It can be changed and updated. Kurt complimented the City on what a fantastic community we have here. Last spring hundreds of residents filled out a long survey regarding city growth and many other topics. The results have been tabulated and included in our Comprehensive Plan. Please come and review this plan and visit with the members of the Planning and Zoning Committee. Light refreshments will be served. The Plan, once formalized, will also be soon available to view at the City's website at www.cityofiona.org
