Present for the Committee: Sue Skidmore; Chair, Betsy Pontius, Ann Crozier,Josh Stewart, Richard
Hoffmann,Trish Hill (in Dave Telman's absence), Cheryl Codair
I. Call to Order/Agenda Changes: The meeting was called to order at 4:30PM. There were no
agenda changes.
II. Citizens Speak: None
III. Priority Business:
A. Review legal opinion regarding School Choice: Tile Committee reviewed the Non-Resident
Students Policy 45118,as well as dates of student withdrawal should a family move outside the
school district during the school year. Discussion was held on tuition rates,funding impacts,and
avenues currently open to parents of students re-locating during the school year including
appealing to the School Committee to allow their student to remain at Nauset for the remainder
of the school year.
B. Review legal opinion regarding the Fundraising Policy#9326: The Committee reviewed the
current policy, example policies and discussed the legal opinion offered. Discussion was held on
balancing the wording to include collaborative language while at the same time conveying
School Committee discretion on limiting the types of fundraising taking place. It was decided
more discussion needed to be held on Policy#9326.
C. Review the legal opinion regarding the policy of School Committee—Staff Communication
#4214: Discussion was held on the attached legal opinion, avenues currently open for staff to
communicate through established administrative routes, Union Representation,and the
availability of communication between staff and School Committee members during the Citizens
Speak portion of every School Committee meeting.
A citizen in the audience expressed concern that the full agenda was not posted prior to the
meeting.
The next meeting date was set for Wednesday, May 14, 2014 @ 4:3013M.
IV, Adjournment: It was moved by Ann Crozier,seconded by Betsy Pontius and voted unanimously
to adjourn at 5:30PM.
