Search Subcommittee -- Minutes 13,ipi -, Superintendent Search Committee August 25, 2014 _ Central Administration Offices Present for the Committee: Joanne Irish, Gail Briere, Brenda Cazeault, Mort Inger, Ed Lewis and John O'Reilly Call to Order Chair Irish called the meeting to order at 3:09 p.m. The Chair reviewed materials in the binder that was handed out that included: agenda, search committee options, consultants (MASC or Cape Cod Collaborative) and a history of superintendent searches in the past. Election of Vice Chair On a motion by Joanne Irish, seconded by Ed Lewis, it was voted unanimously to elect John O'Reilly as vice chair of the search committee. Citizens Speak None Priority Business The Committee discussed how to proceed and after deliberation, decided to ask the Cape Cod Collaborative to give a presentation to the committee at the next meeting. Mr. Lewis suggested they put together a budget and hold public forums for input from various groups such as teachers/administrators, local government, and parents. It was suggested the committee work with the consultant and give them what the district is looking for in the process and in the next superintendent. The Chair asked if additional members were needed on the Committee such as an administrator, teacher or citizen at large. Mr. Inger and Mr. Lewis concurred that the search committee was elected by constituents and did not feel the need for others on the committee but would like input from various groups through public forums. Mr. O'Reilly, Ms. Cazeault and Ms. Briere would like a non-voting administrator on the committee, as was done in the past. Ms. Briere felt it very 1-Supt. Search Subcommittee 8-25-2014 important that there is someone on the committee who has an understanding of the expectations and can share insights with the committee. By consensus, the committee decided to approach Dr. Ann Caretti to see if she would serve as the non-voting member to the search committee. Discussion about an internal posting and just one posting ensued and it was decided that one posting going out from the Collaborative was best for the district. It was also suggested that the district needs a superintendent with experience. Funding the search was discussed and it was decided that representatives should report back to their committees that the search could cost about $25,000 at this point and that does not include advertising. On a motion by Ed Lewis, seconded by Mort Inger, it was voted unanimously to secure the Cape Cod Collaborative as a search engine. Next meeting date is on September 9, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Central Office. Other meeting dates were discussed. Meeting every two weeks was also mentioned. Adjournment On a motion by Mort Inger, seconded by Brenda Cazeault, it was voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 4:45 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Ann M. Tefft 2-Supt.
