Search Subcommittee -- 11/19/2014 Minutes Superintendent Search Committee ( IJ b Li 1<` € November 19, 2014 Central Administration Office Present for the Committee: Gail Briere, Ed Lewis,Joanne Irish, Mort Inger,Ann Caretti, Brenda Cazeault and John O'Reilly Others Present: Dr. Patricia Grenier, Cape Cod Collaborative Call to Order Chair Irish called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. _ Citizens Speak _ _ None -. Priority Business Summary of Focus Group Data- Dr. Grenier reviewed the compiled data from the various focus groups for the committee noting the small sample size of participants. She summarized the data in two ways,narrative interpretation and authentic data categorized by themes. Dr.Grenier indicated that two responses came from Finance Committee, Selectmen and Town Administrators—one from Harry Terkanian and another from David Dunford. There were three community leaders at the community forum including 2 members of the Orleans Finance Committee and a selectman from Brewster. Brochure- Mr. Inger felt the brochure should include more of the District's accomplishments, students going on to four-year colleges, Nauset's good reputation. He thought there should be more that celebrates Nauset. Dr. Grenier indicated that she is re-thinking the 3-fold pamphlet brochure and would like to change the format to be more like a PowerPoint Presentation. She learned that the brochures do not get mailed but are uploaded onto the website, so why not do something more extensive with more influence of successes that will compel people to apply. It was the consensus of the committee to promote and market Nauset. Dr. Grenier noted that Educational Week has a deadline of December 10"'. Content of the new presentation will describe leadership qualities,(integrity, communication and transparency),multi-year budgeting,what makes Nauset special, and possesses good management skills. School Choice,Tuition agreements with Provincetown and Truro and declining enrollment were mentioned as well as facilities management. Course offerings, innovation and community support/partnerships are a hallmark of Nauset. Dr. Grenier will talk with the high school principal to get further information. In summary, capture Nauset's successes, what makes Nauset so successful, community support, balance of public support need based and philanthropic. Revisit Search Committee Membership- Chair Irish mentioned discussion from focus groups and the need to add members to the committee to include a community member, a parent, a teacher and a student. A lengthy discussion followed weighing pros and cons of each category and the challenges it may or may not present. The feeling was that Supt. Search Subcommittee—1149-2014 1 1 P a g e
