Keith Markel Named New Leesburg Deputy Town Manager
Leesburg, VA (September 3, 2014) - The Town of Leesburg
announced today that Keith Markel, the current Lovettsville
Town Manager, has been hired as the new Deputy Town
Manager for Leesburg. Mr. Markel will replace Kaj Dentler,
beginning Monday, October 6, 2014, when Mr. Dentler steps
into the Town Manager position following the retirement of
John Wells.
Keith Markel has been the Town Manager for the Town of
Lovettsville for seven years. He first joined the Town of
Lovettsville as Assistant Town Manager and Project Manager in
January 2007 and was promoted to his current position in May
2007. Prior his tenure with Lovettsville, Mr. Markel worked for
the City of Harrisonburg, Virginia, as City Planner. Mr. Markel
holds a Bachelor’s Degree from James Madison University with
a double major in Public Administration and Political Science. He is a Certified Planner (AICP)
and a member of the International City/County Management Association and the Virginia Local
Government Management Association.
“While we will truly miss Keith in Lovettsville, I am excited for him as he engages himself at this
higher level,” said Robert J. Zoldos II, Lovettsville’s mayor. “Keith’s time with Lovettsville will
always be marked as the coming of age for our little town and we know that he made that
happen. I would like to thank him for getting us to where we are today!”
“We had a very strong candidate pool for the Deputy Town Manager position,” said Kaj Dentler,
Leesburg’s incoming Town Manager. “Keith quickly rose to the top as our number one choice.
His experience in Lovettsville, as a ‘hands-on’ manager, will be invaluable as he transitions to
our larger community.”
