Leesburg Offering Free Document Shredding to Residents on
Saturday, September 20, 2014
Leesburg, VA (September 9, 2014) – The Town of Leesburg’s Public Works Department will host
a free community document shredding event on Saturday, September 20, 2014 from 9:00 a.m.
to 1:00 p.m. at Heritage High School in Leesburg. Heritage High School is located at 520
Evergreen Mill Road SE.
In an effort to reduce identity theft and to promote recycling, the Leesburg Public Works
Department offers semiannual free community document shredding events. Typically, during a
four-hour event, nearly 10,000 pounds of documents will be shredded on-site by portable
shredding units and then recycled.
The next event will be on Saturday, September 20, 2014, in the parking lot at Heritage High
School. Residents (no businesses please) may bring up to three (3) boxes or bags of documents,
each equivalent in size to a standard file storage box. The event will close promptly at 1:00
p.m. Cars must be in line by 12:45 p.m. to ensure service. Depending on turnout, t is possible
for both shredding trucks to reach capacity before the end of the event. In this case,
participants may choose to leave their material with the crew in locked containers to be
shredded at their facility after the event. The Kane Company can provide a certificate of
destruction if requested for those who choose to leave material that cannot be shredded
onsite. For a list of items acceptable for shredding and tips on identity theft protection, please
visit the Town website at www.leesburgva.gov/index.aspx?page=249.
During this shredding event, the Town will once again sponsor a food drive to benefit Loudoun
Interfaith Relief’s food bank. With the approach of the holidays, the need for food bank
services increases. Residents are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to
donate. Participation in the food drive is voluntary – residents do not have to donate to
participate in the shred event.
