ITY OF RIVERALE
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the City of Riverdale has over the years been under many jurisdictions which are being highlighted this
year as part of a series of proclamations.
WHEREAS, on June 28th, 1834, after more than 14 years as unorganized territory, the remaining parts of the
Louisiana Purchase east of the Missouri River which were not already a state, including those lands which now
include Riverdale, became part of the Territory of Michigan.
WHEREAS, the Michigan Territory, led from the City of Detroit, was at least the 17th iteration of European and
American ownership of the City of Riverdale and would remain the name of our area for just over 2 years.
THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor of the City of Riverdale, Iowa, do hereby proclaim
that June 28th as
MICHIGAN TERRITORY DAY
In Riverdale, and encourage all staff, residents, and visitors to learn more about the history of the founding of our
region and those who first help establish our community.
