HomeMy Public PortalAbout2022 0628 Wisconsin Territory DayCIL' OF RIVER>D L Irll PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the City of Riverdale has over the years been under many jurisdictions which are being highlighted this year as part of a series of proclamations. WHEREAS, on July 3`d, 1836, after just over two years as Michigan territory, the remaining parts of Michigan Territory became, in arguably their most wonderful iteration in their history, Wisconsin Territory, after Michigan achieved statehood, including those lands which now include Riverdale. WHEREAS, the Wisconsin Territory, led from what are now the Cities of Belmont, WI in 1836, and Burlington, IA in 1837, was at least the 19`h iteration of European and American ownership of the City of Riverdale and would remain the name of our area for just over 2 years. THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor of the City of Riverdale, Iowa, do hereby proclaim that July 3rd as WISCONSIN TERRITORY DAY In Riverdale, and encourage all staff, residents, and visitors to learn more about the history of the founding of our region and those who first help establish our community.
