Thomas Balch Library to Host the 22nd Annual Loudoun History
Awards on Sunday, November 9, 2014
Leesburg, VA (October 20, 2014) – Two individuals will receive 2014 Loudoun History Awards at
the twenty-second annual awards ceremony sponsored by Thomas Balch Library Advisory
Commission. The event will take place Sunday, November 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomas
Balch Library, 208 West Market Street, Leesburg, VA.
This year’s first honoree is Vernon Peterson for his outstanding work to research, preservation,
and documentation of the memory of African Americans in Loudoun County’s history. The
second honoree is Stephen C. Price for his many contributions to the conservation of land,
historic preservation, and the history of Loudoun County
These individuals have made significant contributions to preserving Loudoun’s past through
collection of county documents and memorabilia, preservation of historic landmarks, visual
arts, writing, and long-time commitment to local history organizations.
In addition to the annual awards, the Thomas Balch Library Advisory Commission will present
two certificates of special recognition. The Honorable Charles A. Waddell will recognized for his
efforts as a legislator to preserving and enhancing historical resources in the Commonwealth of
Virginia and Loudoun County. Former Town Manager John A. Wells will be recognized for his
many years of personal support of history and preservation throughout Loudoun County,
Leesburg, and, in particular, the Thomas Balch Library.
