HomeMy Public PortalAbout2019-04-16 mintuesPark Resources & Planning Committee Meeting April 16, 2019 Red Shed, Vivion Field, 801 Myrtle Street Committee members present were: Larry Vincent, Celeste Koon, Gene Bushmann, Mary Telthorst, Mark Leesman, and Mark Kaiser. Commissioners present were Stu Murphy and Bill Plank. Park staff present: Amy Shaw, JJ Gates, Todd Spalding, Andy Carroll. Others in attendance were Nicole Roberts- News Tribune, Stu Duenckel, and Ashley French and Morgan – Weathered Rock Veterinary Clinic. I. Call to Order: Commissioner Stu Murphy called the meeting to order at Noon. II. Dog Park and Off Leash Area JJ Gates called attention to a packet of information that was distributed to committee members. Gates stated that at a recent Commission meeting a citizen came to request that his non neutered dog be allowed to use the park. Gates stated this gave staff the opportunity to step back and see how the current dog park is operating. Gates reported that Dog Park opened in 2006 with the large dog park and the small dog park was opened later. He stated we request that users of the park pay a $3 fee per month per dog and provide papers showing the dog is spayed or neutered and that they have a rabies vaccination. Director Spalding reported that the Park Master Plan calls for additional dog parks in Jefferson City and will considered in future park improvements. The committee then discussed the dog park in detail. No action was taken. III. Community Park Improvements Update JJ Gates reported that the Commission has approved the construction contract with Sircal, and they will begin construction on May 1. IV. McClung Park and Ellis-Porter Riverside Park Preliminary Plan Update Gates provided preliminary drawings of the planned improvements at each park and described the improvements for committee members. V. Park Improvements Update Gates provided an update on park improvements. He stated that staff continues to work on Adrian’s Island and as construction begins later this summer, park staff is working on plans to create a primitive park area. At Washington Park, staff is working on a plan for additional security lighting. At McKay, staff is working to replace the loop trail. At Hickory and Adams Neighborhood parks, staff is working complete sidewalk improvements and staff is working to purchase new bleachers for the first and third base line at Vivion and new bleachers for Vogel Field. VI. What are you hearing/seeing in the community Committee member Kaiser asked about the stormwater areas behind Duensing Field. Gates responded that staff is working to complete the stormwater basins, and are also looking to install some bat boxes to help with the mosquito problems. VII. Other Business: None. 2 VIII.
