Chuck was a PVCS band teacher for much of that time. Naturally, all of the sons in the DCamp clan learned to play instruments. It was at a US Bicentennial gathering, just as something of a lark that Chuck, his wife Joyce, and Chuck’s brother and sister decided it might be fun to put on an impromptu concert for the celebration. Back then, no one realized this would be the basis for a semi-annual reunion and concert performance, rotating among the sons’ communities throughout the Midwest. If all of Chuck’s sons, daughters-in-law, grand kids, great-grand kids, and spouses who play instruments would be able to travel and participate, those musicians would constitute a concert band with (as of this writing) 38 players, gathering together from Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, California, and Texas. The band has also been fortunate to have many friends of the family who occasionally join them for fun and fellowship and of course the group’s love of music. This year, the DCamps will gather at Volunteer Park, at Riverdale’s Ice Cream Social from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., to provide some light and festive band music for Riverdale residents while folks enjoy ice cream and visiting with friends. Please join the festivities and wish Chuck a happy belated 90th birthday. The DCamps hope everyone enjoys the music!
